Speaking of necro....

Can we kill this thread? Just until the next one just like it pops up tomorrow?

Well... if one's gonna popup tomorrow anyway, might's well keep this one.

Contrary to popular belief I think it is allowed to discuss the subject.

It is just:

People who understand the game saying Mesmers aren't better than other professions

VS.

People who don't understand the game saying Mesmers are very important and take extreme skill to play.

Without reading most of the thread, my thoughts:

Mesmers are definately worth it in PVE. Why? Because the class is subtly designed, and it takes practice to master it. They are definately more PvP geared (I rarely see a necro replacing a mesmer in high-end pvp, btw), but taking one through PvE can give you some much needed experience at recognizing skill icons, knowing what skills do, and other things that the PvP world considers basic.

I personally have no use for PUG's. I'd take heros/hench before I'd take a real person I didn't know, unless I'm in a great mood and the individual(s) can run the bar I want them to.

They have their advantages and disadvantages, so it depends on what you want to deal with but learn the game at the same time.

I agree with Kenru.

Mesmer are by design a powerful PvP profession. They have debuffs, interrupts, some spike skills, energy pain skills, punishing hexes... They're meant to mess enemies up in pvp, and open windows for melee players to score kills.

But they lack the brute force that usually is the best way to win in PvE.

That being said, it's a good thing to roll a mesmer when you start playing Guildwars because it forces you to pay attention at every skill ennemies play.

Everyone knows mesmers suck horribly and anyone who plays it should quit the game.

(This is what I hear from someone in game, and since he said it in all caps i'm going to naively assume he was right)

This is amazing. One-line question equals argument over like 150 posts. I can't believe this isn't locked yet. Someone lock this!

Mesmers have more of a mental aspect also. In pve its just mindless ai, but in pvp when you see all those hexes on your screen, your in big trouble. Eventually your opponent will make a mistake under all that pressure and eventually collapse.

Also I was bored of my ranger and looking for a new class to play so I started up a mesmer again and thats my main atm. Its so fun when I put empathy on an assassin and they just keep attacking.

Although, theres those ignorant assbags that just bash Mesmers for no reason.

I killed this one assassin too fast and he started a flame war with me.

He called me a fagser also ;(

Well imho....I belive mesmer to be one of the strongest professions in the game, they are just under-played...and probably to complicated for "some" people out there xD

I still don't see where mesmers are any more complex or take any more skill to master than any other class. Nobody's provided any logic/reasoning behind this statement, it's just the same rehashed shit someone else said.

Aww someone deleted my "sarcasmz" post about mesmars being teh suxorama!
Seriously though, mesmer is one of my primary characters, i just recently remade my pve mesmer and flew around prophecies and factions in a little under 40 hours over a few days Very nice class to play and the least likely to see anywhere in the game

I originaly hated it and made a wammo like most people who started the game who just wanting to Bash things, but when factions came out i made my first mesmer and it's been a pleasure to have ever since, one of the reasons i remade him is just so i had a real good excuse to play it constantly for a few hours

Bring me back my freedom and let me outa here! I Reeeealy need to see Sunshine.......

i love mesmers. its my favorite class, but to be honest i'd rather have another class than a mesmer in most places. sure there's a few useful places to have a mesmer interrupter and they're by no means bad in PvE.

all in all i think Mesmer's are much better served as a PvP class than a PvE class.

Because you have to cast Empathy on the melee.
Because you have to cast Backfire on the casters.
Because you have to interrupt spells.

This takes SOOO much skill and is really complicated. Only the most advanced minds can figure it out.

And yet those advanced minds haven't figured out that Empathy and Backfire are terribaed skills yet? How ironic.

LOL. and so far both of you just proved you can't play a mesmer. Backfire and Empathy? wiki much? As for Chicken, to play competitive pvp mesmer, you have to have insane timing, well planned cast, learn to undercast, and more importantly, learn to be one of the most sought after dead targets next to monk, which is a lot of pressure in any real top tier pvp situation. that means knowing how to kite to a pro level, and still cast what and where you need to cast, making you shutdown spread out party wide, aiding spikes, and interupting key skills.

if you didnt know that or can't do it, you can't play mesmer, and therfore, will always think you're just as good as a good mes player. i've been playing mes since early proph in both pve and pvp, and i'm no where near as good as some of the top GvG mesmers of past and present, so maybe actually make a mesmer, and try to play it good, then we'll talk.

True. Let's keep it near the top, to prevent it dying and a new one replacing it.
